5. Carrot - 1/2 cup ( chopped long)
6. Capsicum - 1/2 (cubed)
7. Tomato - 1 (chopped finely)
8. Tamarind - 2 tsp/ small lemon size
9. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
10. Mustard seeds - 1-2 tsp
11. Bisibelle bhaath powder - 5-6 tsp
12. Water - 4 - 1/2 cup/ 2 glasses
13. Salt - to taste
14. Oil - 1-2 tsp
15. Coconut - 3-4 tbsp (optional)
16. Ghee - 1-2 tsp (optional)
Preparation Time!!
1. Take rice and toor dal and add 4 cups water and pressure cook for 3 whistles (The proportion count is, for each cup of dal or rice, add two cups of water 1 rice : 2 cups water and 1 cup dal : 2 cups water)
1a. In a pan, add oil and once warm, add mustard seeds
2. Once it splutters, add onion and sauté till light brown. Add curry leaves
3. Then, add carrot, beans and sauté for 1-2 minutes
4. Add capsicum, mix well and sauté for another minute
5. Add tomatoes and the add bisibelle bhaath powder, till it coats all veggies properly
6. Add salt.Mix
7. Now, add tamarind paste and add 2 to 2.5 glasses water and let this boil, till the smell of tamarind and powder smell goes
8. Once done, keep aside
1. Once the rice and dal mixture is done, use a ladle and lightly mash the rice-dal mixture
2. Then, add the tamarind-vegetable mixture to the rice and mix well. Ensure there are no lumps of rice
3. Add coconut and mix well(Yup! shredded raw coconut, not need to sauté and desiccate). Adjust salt accordingly
Serve hot & add ghee while serving! You could add boondi too and have a along with raitha..
Pointers
1. Add a little hot water, and ensure that rice mixture is a little loose (as in semi-solid form) . It has a tendency to become hard, so a little water helps, if you are packing for lunch..
2. If you are really weight conscious, i am sure you would skip ghee. I would say add at least 1 spoon,it really enhances the flavor :)
Serving - 2-3 people
Duration - 40 minutes
